Is Iliad just a story or does it have an historical fundament? This is one of the questions specialists tried to give a pertinent answer.
Excavations in Hisarlik, in the late 19th century, research on oral epics, the decipherment of Linear B, all provided some prove that the story of the Trojan War, as reflected in the Homeric poems, has its foundation in a war which actually took place.
